GAPS aims to measure the distance between the platform and the train before installing a gap-bridging system as well as authorising it and deploying it (SIL2). This gap-filler is a mobile platform filling the space between the train and the platform, enabling passengers with reduced mobility to be able to access the train in complete safety.

GAPS aims to measure the distance between the platform and the train before installing a gap-bridging system as well as authorising it and deploying it (SIL2). This gap-filler is a mobile platform filling the space between the train and the platform, enabling passengers with reduced mobility to be able to access the train in complete safety.

GAPS comprises lasers which scan the edge of the platform and receive the data to check whether or not the platform is compatible with the gap filler. It then transmits the data via a CAN link, so that the system adapts the instructions being sent to the gap filler outlet.

CLEARSY has carried out the studies and the prototypes of the systems including its industrialisation, which comprises the electronic card and encased housing, as well as the integration of laser scanners. The safety report was carried out and is being certified by a third party. In order to register various platform configurations, a self-governing prototype for recording laser images and ultrasound has been created: UltraGAPS.

UltraGAPS is a self-governing prototype which doesn’t require any train to enter (other than its power supply) and registers each train stop before communicating this information via a GSM link. It processes this information in the following way:

  • Detection of a train stopping via GPS (zero speed)
  • Acquiring GPS data (position, speed, time…)
  • Acquiring laser data
  • Acquiring an image of the platform
  • Acquiring the ultrasound data
  • Submission Time Stamp for data and saving on a USB key
  • Transmitting data gathered on a server via a GSM link

CLEARSY has developed an electronic card integrating various interfaces: lasers, ultrasound, image, GPS, GPRS, and has integrated it in an encased housing to be installed on two regional trains.
