The installation of platform screen doors prior to automation allowed for a gradual transition to a fully automatic system without interrupting line operations. This was made possible by the temporary coexistence of two types of trains: conventional trains gradually replaced by automatic shuttles.<\/p>\n<p>The DOF system is based on secure wireless magnetic communication between the ground (antenna covering the train&#8217;s stopping tolerance length around the stopping point) and the train (antenna and computer).<\/p>\n<p>The second concerns the gap detection system (DIL), which monitors that no one is trapped between the platform and the train before departure. This monitoring system is necessary in the case of automatic trains because there is no longer a driver to monitor for possible incidents, thanks to cameras and screens.<\/p>\n<p>The DIL system is based on fixed devices under the platform limit (a kind of step) to prevent people from falling, and lasers to detect people.<\/p>\n<p>Like the previous volumes, this one is fascinating. Its authors are involved in the specialised Master&#8217;s degree programme in \u2018Rail and Urban Transport Systems\u2019 at the \u00c9cole nationale des ponts et chauss\u00e9es\u2019.
