As ETCS rolls out across Europe, thousands of drivers have to move from lineside signals to cab signalling. Railway operators face the same training challenge: track and train time is scarce and costly, and degraded modes or rare scenarios cannot be reproduced on demand on a live network.
That’s why CLEARSY developed Opsimu, a driving simulator that couples an on-board ETCS simulation with a 3D view of the railway environment. Drivers see how movement authorities and speed restrictions are built, how they appear on the DMI, and how they match what is happening on the track.
Thanks to our collaboration with Agility3, the 3D environment makes each exercise immersive. Trainers can replay any scenario, including degraded modes, as often as needed, with no train and no infrastructure required.
The result: drivers who understand ETCS behaviour before their first trip on an equipped line.
