Several light rail projects, such as ECOTRAIN unveiled at the end of 2025, are emerging. In this context, CLEARSY is innovating and designing safety systems adapted to these new shuttles.
The free track detection system developed enables the train to receive advance information about any obstacles on the track.
Based on safe radar detection, this system:
- Scans a section of track
- Determines whether there is anything abnormal on the track by comparing it with a reference radar image
- Issues a verdict: free or occupied track
This information is transmitted securely to trains, which can adjust their speed before reaching the section in question.
At any time, if the track is free again, the system transmits this new information to the trains, which will resume normal speed.
This system optimises train speed while ensuring safety.
Supported by France2030 via ADEME, the ECOTRAIN shuttle was designed by Philippe BOURGUIGNON and developed by a 100% French consortium (Groupe Stratiforme-Compreforme -Technoforme, Socofer France, Syntony GNSS, CLEARSY, IMT Nord Europe, IMT Mines Albi).
