Safety location system: CLEARSY technology at the service of ECOTRAIN

Safety location system: CLEARSY technology at the service of ECOTRAIN
13 January 2026

Several light rail projects, such as ECOTRAIN unveiled at the end of 2025, are emerging. In this context, CLEARSY innovates and designs safety systems adapted to these new shuttles.

The safety tracking system developed enables the train to know its position on the track, with metre-level accuracy, at any point outside or inside tunnels.

It consists of two subsystems:

  • The first is located on the track and is entirely passive, containing position information
  • The second is on board and reads the first several thousand times per second

This provides the train with three essential safety measures:

  • A measurement of the train’s precise position on the track
  • A measurement of the train’s speed
  • A stop detection (necessary for opening the doors)

The system developed complies with the SIL4 standard according to Cenelec EN 50126, 50128 and 50129 standards.

Supported by France2030 via ADEME, the ECOTRAIN shuttle was designed by Philippe BOURGUIGNON and developed by a 100% French consortium (Groupe Stratiforme-Compreforme -Technoforme, Socofer France, Syntony GNSS, CLEARSY, IMT Nord Europe, IMT Mines Albi).
